American Regions Mathematics League (ARML)

To encourage and increase the participation of Charlotte students in ARML, Team Charlotte will participate in ARML as one of the three North Carolina teams. 

• Team Charlotte will be led by Tao Hong, with assistance from Liqiu Deng and Harold Reiter; 

• Team Charlotte will recruit students within the North Carolina state borderline;

• Team Charlotte plans to host one team practice per month at Telra Institute; 

• Team Charlotte tryout will be open to all NC students;

• Any student who is interested in joining Team Charlotte, as a team member, alternate, or practice player, should send a commitment letter to Dr. Tao Hong on or prior to August 27, 2026. The students who have committed to Team Charlotte are not eligible for the other two North Carolina teams; 

• After August 27, 2026, Team Charlotte events will be by invitation only;

• For the 2026-2027 academic year, Team Charlotte is looking for AIME qualifiers (or equivalent) to join the travel team. Team Charlotte is also looking for middle schoolers who are exceptionally strong in mathematics to join the team practices.

About Team Charlotte

Established in 2024, Team Charlotte is a mathematics team in Charlotte, NC. Team Charlotte is open to all NC students who are interested in high school math competitions at the national level. 

On May 31st, 2025, Team Charlotte, as a first-year team, competed in the 2025 ARML competition, winning Division B of the Southern Site.  (News article from UNC Charlotte)

In April 2026, ARML  approved Team Charlotte's request to field two ARML teams. On May 30,  2026, Team Charlotte won Division B of the Southern Site for the second year in a row.
